Vegan Restaurants in Liverpool

The Egg Vegetarian Cafe

(4.7/5 on Google Reviews)

Top Floor, 16-18 Newington, Liverpool L1 4ED, 0151 707 2755

Winner of the Best Vegetarian Café at the V2 Awards in 2020, this one is close to our hearts.  It’s got an artsy, creative feel, and is even home to an independent art gallery.

Fun fact- it sits in the loft of a Grade II Victorian warehouse, making it a seriously cool place to eat in Liverpool.  You can taste a delicious vegan full English or all-day quiche, as well as Liverpool’s heritage.

Vita’s Choice: their scrambled tofu on toast.  Filling and hearty, the perfect way to start your day.

Orgânico Juice Bar & Eatery

(4.6/5 on Google Reviews)

74 Bold St, Liverpool L1 4HR, 0151 458 0412

With a motto like ‘Feed your Soul’, you just know you’re in for a fun (and yummy) ride at Orgânico.

As a brand, they’re built around providing good energy and holistic well-being-  plant-based, organic, and downright scrumptious foods are just the chosen vehicle.

Their food is mouth-watering, from a roasted tofu and black bean breakfast burrito, to a superfood green omelette, you’ll walk out of there a new you.  But the real game changer is the smoothies: my personal favourite, the simply-named ‘green’ smoothie, is a delightful mix of Goji Berries, Avocado, and more.

Vita’s Choice: the breakfast Acai Bowl.  Superfood-filled (think cacao nibs, chia seeds, mixed berries), and super delicious.

Indigo Greens

(4.9/5 on Google Reviews)

132 Queens Dr, Clubmoor, Liverpool L13 0AL, 0151 792 2715

One of the most popular healthy restaurants in Liverpool (reviews don’t lie!).

Rated the Best Vegan restaurant 2019 by VegFestUk, they pride themselves on creative and innovative recipes using cruelty-free food, all delivered with a warm smile.  It’s what they call ‘the Indigo experience’- and it totally delivers.

Out of all the spots on this list, they probably have the most diverse selection on offer. From Green Grill Breakfasts, to burgers, stir fries, Buddha Bowls, open sandwiches, ‘Chakra Healing Smoothies’, and CBD-infused products,  it’s beautifully overwhelming.

Vita’s Choice: the ‘Mashed Avo’ open sandwich is a real treat, served with coriander, lime and chilli on a sourdough.

Indigo Greens Liverpool

(4.6/5 on Google Reviews)

312 Smithdown Rd, Liverpool L15 5AF, 0151 733 0879

The clue is in the name with this one!  They basically do delectable plant based alternatives to classic non-vegan dishes.  Think vegan onion rings, pulled ‘pork’ tacos (with jackfruit, of course), and fish and chips (with banana blossom).

The  taste is eerily spot on and almost identical to the real thing.  So if you’re an ex meat eater hankering for some of your old favourites, this is your place.

Vita’s choice: the pulled ‘pork’ tacos.  Jackfruit in an explosive blend of Mexican spices, onions and peppers served up with guacamole?  Yes please.

Meatless Liverpool

(4.6/5 on Google Reviews)

Bixteth St, Liverpool L3 9LP, 0151 236 8886

Sanskruti’ is a Sanskrit name meaning ‘culture’ or ‘tradition’.  The team over at Sanskruti are on a mission to bring a taste of India’s cultural melting pot to your table.

They blend fragrant spices and herbs into their vegan dishes to bring you food that, as they proudly state, you won’t find anywhere else in Liverpool.

As with any Indian restaurant, you’ll have your naans and rice selection.  But a good 90% of the menu I’d never even heard of!  Which makes eating there a total adventure.  From the Punjabi ‘Kaju Masala’ (roasted cashew nuts in a delicious gravy of tomato and spices), to the Gujarati Vatana Baleta (a potato and green pea curry with ginger and lemon), I was left hankering for more…

Vita’s choice: we were big fans of the Bhindi Anari.  A flavoursome okra-based dish cooked with a mixture of onion, tomatoes and spices.

Restaurants with vegan and non-vegan options in Liverpool

Malmo on Hanover

(4.8/5 on Google Reviews)

65-67 Hanover St, Liverpool L1 3DY, 0151 317 7868

A relatively new spot in Liverpool, a little gem that has been proudly independent and cooking locally sourced delicacies since 2017.

Situated in the Liverpool city centre, it’s got an authentic, laid back vibe, and serves a huge range of dishes.  The enticingly-named ‘eggs in purgatory’ is a personal highlight- a blend of free-range poached eggs on a bed of fiery tomato sauce with parmesan and chives.

Vita’s Choice: the veganized garlic truffle mushrooms with extra avocado.  Technically a brunch dish, it’s to die for.

Malmo on Hanover Liverpool

(4.4/5 on Google Reviews)

54 Bold St, Liverpool L1 4EA, 0151 707 1255

This is a real interesting one.  It’s a Lebanese & Moroccan kitchen which prides itself on delicious, exotic, and fresh Arabic-inspired meals.  Put simply, if you’re tired of your standard poached eggs on toast and want to venture out of your comfort zone, look no further.

It’s a ‘flavour of the Mediterranean’, and a culinary assault on the senses worthy of the eccentricity that is Bold Street.  From Lebanese Moussakka (an aubergine based casserole), to Farrouj Meshawi (Lebanese spiced chicken), there’s an interesting variety.

Vita’s Choice: we’re big fans of the Shakshouka- tomatoes, onions, garlic and parsley baked eggs, served with Arabic bread.  It’s the perfect companion to a Rooman (a pomegranate and orange Lebanese lemonade!

Bakchich Liverpool

109 Allerton

(4.4/5 on Google Reviews)

109 Allerton Rd, Liverpool L18 2DD, 0151 724 2491

109 Allerton is a South Liverpuddlian gem.  Affordable and quality locally-sourced ingredients (from a local Crosby greengrocer) are whipped up into modern, wholesome dishes.

Support the local economy whilst devouring classics like the 109 Wrap (roast cauliflower, chickpeas and various other vegetables in a tahini dressing) and the Korean Bowl (a noodle-based pak choi dish).

Vita’s Choice: the 109 3 egg omelette.  We love a ‘build your own’ option.  There’s 8 choices of fillings, but the feta, hot smoked salmon and spinach combo is a winner.

Mowgli Street Food

(4.6/5 on Google Reviews)

69 Bold St, Liverpool L1 4EZ, 0151 708 9356

Mowgli encapsulates truly authentic Indian street food culture, and has a good story to boot.  In 2014, founder Nisha Katona gave up a successful 20 year career as a Barrister with a vision to revitalize the UK curry scene and go back to the roots of Indian cooking.

With Intense, explosive and spice-rich dishes abound, it’s time to put down your butter chicken in favour of something with proper zing.  Try the calcutta tangled greens (sweet and nutty drumhead with mustard seed and lemon) or the Mowgli Paneer (soft cubes of paneer cheese simmered with a range of spices and tomatoes).  You won’t be disappointed.

Vita’s Choice: the Goan fish curry consists of fish fillets in a highly fragrant, fiery and tangy mahogany sauce.  Drizzled with Kashmiri red chilies, it’s a welcome assault on the senses.

PICNIC Smithdown

4.7/5 on Google Reviews

509a Smithdown Rd, Liverpool L15 5AE, 0151 345 8310

In a nutshell, Picnic Liverpool is ‘healthy fast food’.  If you’re craving the taste *and price) of a McDonalds without the heart-clogging ingredients, Picnic Liverpool are magicians at turning the wholesome and organic into delectable dishes.

They specialize in healthy wraps (such as the aptly named ‘Heaven’ falafel couscous delight), bowls (salad, meat-based and vegan), and smoothies.

Vita’s choice: we’d recommend the ‘Superfood Stir Fry’.  Your choice of topper (quinoa, BBQ Jackfruit, Halloumi or Chicken), and a variety of wholesome treats like red cabbage, avocado and tenderstem broccoli, all served in a Thai green sauce.

It will only set you back between £2-£7, and caters to breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Vita’s Choice: the peanut butter and fresh fruit on toast.  Protein-packed, filling, delicious, and only £4.50.

The Nutrition Bar

(4.6/5 on Google Reviews)

D28, Commerce Way, Liverpool L8 7BA, 0151 345 8820

Great selection, with a great mission on the side: they’ve been known to take leftover food to the Missionaries of Charity (an award-winning organization with a Homeless Football Club) to help those less fortunate.

They do breakfasts and lunch, with a selection of smoothies (the Vitamin Boost is a popular fruit-rich option), wraps, and ‘create your own’ protein boxes.  All of these hover around the £5-£7, and are deliciously filling.

Vita’s Choice: the Moroccan chicken wrap- it’s packed with delicious chicken, couscous, chili sauce and veggies.

Go Falafel

4.9/5 on Google Reviews

6 Richmond St, Liverpool L1 1EF

This will likely give you the best bang for your buck, and the Liverpudlian Mecca for all things falafel.

Ratings don’t lie, it is hugely popular, with a range of fresh falafel-based dishes, wraps, salads, juices and smoothies.

It’s totally vegan, and serves full meals from £5.95-£8.95.

Vita’s Choice: the medium (yet surprisingly bulky) falafel wrap, fit with hummus, lettuce, tomato and cucumber, spicy potatoes, red cabbage and pickles.

For more information, visit their website here.
